Travel Duffle II - by Annie bag

BRING A LUNCH, we won’t necessarily stop to go out to lunch, but time to eat lunch is definitely in the schedule.

*** IF using a machine from Stitch – please call Geri before the class to reserve one. There are only 3 available to reserve.

All STUDENT WILL RECEIVE 10% DISCOUNT ON ALL REGULAR PRICED CLASS ITEMS

To make this class as efficient as possible and to make sure we all walk out with the bag in hand, or at least mostly complete, please make sure you have the preparation completed, pieces cut and quilted as directed and the bias binding sewn together in a long strip. This bag is amazingly simple and time consuming at the same time. There are a lot of steps but they are not terrible or hard, just many.

Geri has ordered Bodkins to help turn the straps through, they are long so can be incredibly painful without a tool. Also, if you do not wish to round the corners before class, I will bring the creative grid circle rulers to make it easy. If you do not have a stiletto, they are handy, but when I cannot find mine in the middle sewing, I turn my seam ripper (Jack) sideways and use it. We can, more than likely, finish this bag in a serious session but will have two dates to make sure we cover all our bases and get the bags completed in full. The interior raw edges and covered with binding, I have sewn a few and some I have not used binding and some I have. It really depends on your preference.

Items to bring:

Please bring : pattern (I know, obvious), all pieces cut/quilted as per directions – using the labels provided really WORKS, bias binding cut and in one piece (do not iron these in half, Coordinating thread for both bobbin and top thread, basic sewing supplies to include rotary cutter, marking tool, stiletto,

**If you use anything other than handbag zippers, bring your zipper foot, otherwise, 1⁄4” foot should work fine. It’s your preference. By Annie zippers by the yard work amazingly well, but use what you have. You can purchase these zips at Stitch.

** AND finally, bring your lunch, we will get right on the bag so we each can finish the project. If you have never created a By Annie anything, it would not hurt to watch some of her youtube videos. She does make it pretty user friendly but some of the directions at the beginning may sound like it’s overwhelming. It really isn’t as long as you come prepared with all the pieces quilted (not all are quilted so read the pattern), cut and prepared.

To be honest, I am a little slow doing the prep as I am always trying to figure out how things are put together to make sure I do it correctly. It took me an entire day to do the prep, and it took me a full day to do the bag, and then it took me about 2 hours to do the binding on the inside. So two days to do the assembly will work. This bag is big, if you plan on using it for heavy items, you should look into the acrylic plate for the bottom, if you are using it to travel and want to be able to squish it down to fit in overhead on plane or under the seat on a plane, you can just use cardboard on the base. The demo bag has cardboard. I look forward to seeing you all there!!!

Feel free to email or text me before class if you have any questions.
